Position Purpose

This job entails all aspects of optimizing and maintaining equipment with duties such as, but not limited to, the following: perform and complete Basic welding repairs and Oxy / acetylene torch cutting , perform and complete simple Fabrication with approval from Supervisor / Area Manager, use various hand and power hand tools, operates equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments and investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action in order to minimize the impact on crew productivity.

Position Accountabilities

Skills/Specialties:

 

 

  • Repairs, rebuilds, troubleshoots, adjusts, overhauls and maintains heavy duty construction equipment 
  • Inspects graders and other heavy construction equipment to ensure proper performance
  • Detects faults and uses testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions, determining the extent of repair
  • Tests machinery for proper functioning and conducts other routine maintenance work
  • Services attachments and working tools (blades, winches, etc.)

  • Services machines in a manner that is safe, legal, efficient and respectful of company and public property
  • Manages workload daily, performing work safely and taking necessary precautions to prevent injury
  • Performs repairs and inspections independently, seeking help when required
  • Collaborates with operators, foremen, superintendents and other site personnel to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of equipment 
  • Communicates any issues to supervisor as soon as they are identified 
  • Executes job accountabilities under the leadership of the Fleet Service Manager

Position Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

 

 

  • BC Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic license.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of repair to highway maintenance equipment.
  • Demonstrated abilities in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Current BC Class 3 Operators license with airbrake endorsement.
  • Knowledge of operation of all highway equipment owned and operated by LDM.
  • Tools required to repair Light and Heavy trucks.
  • Physical Capabilities (i.e. lift up to 50 – 100 LBS).
  • CVIP Inspection License or ability to obtain a CVIP Inspection License and perform CVIP’s.
  • Computer experience as it relates to documentation and equipment diagnostic systems
  • Ability to work independently as a problem solver and professionally represent the company
